From June 11 to July 19 2026, sixteen cities across Mexico, Canada and the United States will host the men’s World Cup. The following year, Brazil will host the women’s World Cup.
World Cups impact millions of people – as fans, players, communities living in host cities, and workers who enable the events to happen. And yet they risk being dominated by simplified, top-down narratives. World Cup Memories is a place to record and share specific experiences in the build up to, during, and after these two world Cups, wherever those experiences take place: in homes, streets, workplaces, cafes or stadiums.
Who is behind the project?
World Cup Memories is an independent project run by me, Annabel Short. I have a background in journalism and non-profits, and am committed to expanding the space for new stories to be told and heard. (This project builds on a previous one with a similar concept, albeit on a smaller scale: “30th Ave – A Year in the Life of a Street“).
